BUSY WEEKEND OF TRAINING AT BBVFC
Bethany Beach

The first weekend of the new year was filled with training for the members of the BBVFC.  Saturday was the first day of a 24 hour EMT refresher course for the volunteer and career EMT’s.  This class provides mandated classroom and practical reviews needed for EMT certification.

Sunday was the final day of training at the donated house at 400 Garfield Parkway.  Firefighters from both Bethany Beach and Millville drilled on roof ventilation and wall breeching. ......

Rehoboth Beach

Qunit 70 was dispatched to Rehoboth Beach Station 2 to provide a cover up assignment.  The crew was later moved to the scene to assist in overhaul of multiple mobile homes.

STRUCTURAL SEARCH AND RESCUE DRILL
Garfield Parkway Bethany Beach

Using a nontoxic smoke generator, firefighters from Bethany Beach and Millville drilled on search and rescue techniques at a donated structure.  Stretching hose lines, placing ladders and searching in zero visibility firefighters practiced searching for civilian victims, and downed firefighters.

NEW YEAR'S DAY 2012 EVENT COVERAGE
Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island

New Year’s Day 2012 was a beautiful and busy day in Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island.  The Bethany Beach VFC provided EMS and Fire Police protection for three special events in our community.  Starting at 9:00am we protected an ocean plunge in Fenwick Island.  Following that over 700 runners/walkers did both 5k and 10k courses throughout Bethany Beach.  Then at noon, a second ocean plunge occurred at Ocean View Parkway in Bethany Beach.  One Runner was assessed......

FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL AND RESCUE DRILLS
Garfield Parkway Bethany Beach
“Training to save yourself and your own” was the theme for the December 28, 2011 drill. Using a donated structure on Garfield Parkway, the members of the BBVFC practiced techniques and skills they hope they never have to use. Experienced and new firefighters practiced skills needed to extricate a firefighter from a basement following a collapse. They also drilled emergency ‘bail out” techniques from an upper floor window.
