Thursday, January 20, 2011

At 1759 on Thursday 1/20/11, Sussex County dispatched Stations 70, 84, 90 and Medic 105 to a reported working residential fire at the intersection of South Third Street and Costal Highway in South Bethany Beach. Arriving several minutes after dispatch, Quint 70 with Asst. Chief Scott reported a residential structure fully involved with multiple exposures. A supply line was established to the Quint, and exposure protection / defensive attack began. Command was established on the south bound lanes of Coastal Highway by Chief Powell, and a second alarm was requested. This brought Sussex County stations 76, 73, 86, 88 and Ocean City Station 700 to the scene / cover up assignments. Coastal Highway was shut down as a total of four 5 inch supply lines were laid to the fire scene. Coordinated attack brought the fire under control at 1903, with the final unit clearing the scene at 2154. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshalls Office.
