PREPARES
FOR
EARL
BBVFC Headquarters
For several days the officers and members monitored the forecast and track of Hurricane Earl. At one point a category four storm, Earl was predicted to pass dangerously close to our coast line.

During the August drill, Bethany firefighters practiced their skills with the tools used to force entry to a structure. From the most basic hand tools, to hand powered hydraulic tools, to carbide tipped chain and rotary saws, skills were reviewed and practiced. A mock up of a door was built in house by members using a donated residential door. And the special challenge of hurricane windows were met using donated windows. As a busy summer of calls, fire prevention and fund raising nears its end, the members of the BBVFC celebrated the annual summer picnic at our head quarters station. Our friends from the Roxanna VFC stood by so our members could thank their families for all the support. Despite a rainy day, good food and games were shared by all.

Every year the Delaware Burn Camp reaches out to the young victims of the terrible trauma of burn injury. They seek to help with their physical and emotional healing by giving them a great week of summer fun.

Members of the BBVFC were not only busy handling a summer weekend of EMS and Fire calls, we were busy raising funds and meeting the residence and visitors of our community. Our weekend evenings were spent on the Bethany boardwalk selling BBVFC shirts and escorting Sparky the fires safety dog.
Sunday 8/15/10 our members hosted a fund raising breakfast at BBVFC headquarters. Around 175 people came out to support their volunteer fire company, have some great food and see our facility and equipment.......

Every summer the Bethany Beach Fire Company, Fire Prevention Committee holds several Kids Night Out events at Bethany Beach Fire Headquarter. This event brings children of all ages into the fire station and teaches them about fire prevention. The children get the chance to climb on fire apparatus and see some of the tools used by firefighters to save peoples lives. The children also get a chance to spray water from a fire hose used by firefighter and see a fully dressed firefighter in his gear. This......

On August 2nd around 1800 hour Bethany units were dispatched to smoke in a structure on Black Gum Rd. Cathill section of South Bethany. Units arrived and searched the residence for the source. The crew from Quint 70 determined that the smoke was from a malfunctioning air handler. The power was cut off to the unit and the smoke was removed by natural ventilation. Unit cleared shortly after. Asst. Chief Powell had the Command.
